Martin Lewis reveals nifty Amazon trick that could save shoppers 20% with 'hidden' discount

Amazon shoppers can nab a 20 per cent discount off their next purchase with a handy trick shared by Martin Lewis ’ MoneySavingExpert.

In the most recent MoneySavingExpert newsletter, Lewis’ team urged everyone to check to see if they could save on their Amazon purchases.

The MoneySavingExpert team was spreading the word about Amazon Warehouse, a section on Amazon’s site that resells returned items or products with minor defects at knockdown prices.

A couple of the deals up for grabs included GHD hair straighteners for £65 reduced from £109 and a £49 Tassimo by Bosch coffee machine for £22.

The branch of the online retailer sells items which are preowned, or have had their box opened, all for a discounted price.

Amazon is currently slicing a further 20 per cent off around 100,000 Warehouse products in its end-of-summer sale.

Martin Lewis' team said: "While this isn't the biggest discount we've seen on Amazon Warehouse (previously it's had a 30% discount), this is the largest number of items included that we see."

Amazon Warehouse stocks items across 34 departments including electronics, home and kitchen and toys.

The extra 20 per cent off that’s currently applicable to selected Amazon Warehouse items expires next week.

What are Amazon Warehouse deals?

The warehouse bargains online are made up of returned, warehouse-damaged, used, or refurbished products that are in good condition but do not meet the required standards to be sold as "new" by the online retail giant.

It's an ideal option for anyone who is looking for a high-priced tech or electrical items for a fraction of the normal retail price and who doesn't mind picking up a 'like new' version.

Shoppers can often save up to 50 per cent buying quality used or open-box returned goods - that’s without the extra 20 per cent off that’s currently on offer for certain items.

How to claim 20 per cent off Amazon Warehouse items

In order to activate the extra discount, you'll simply need to add one item from the Amazon Warehouse products here to your basket.

If eligible, the offer will automatically be applied at checkout.

When is a deal not a deal?

Amazon has some great deals but before you get tempted to buy something, check and compare the price with other rival retailers.

Just doing a quick search for the product name on Google, or Google Shopping to see what price other stores are charging for it can easily save you some extra pounds.

You can also see how the price has changed on Amazon itself using a service like CamelCamelCamel.
