Martin Lewis reveals how to get paid £125 from your bank

Money saving expert Martin Lewis has revealed how you could get £125 completely free from a high street bank.

Speaking on his ITV show Martin explained how almost anyone can cash in through a new account switching promotion from HSBC.

Under the deal, HSBC will pay new customers £125 for switching their banking to one of their current accounts.

Eligible customers will need to open an Advance account, and agree to move over all of their direct debits and standing orders.

The whole process takes seven days but will allow customers to quickly cash in on the new promotion.

Speaking on the show Martin said: "Tonight it is all about how to get banks to pay you.

"I have got four top pick current accounts for you and two banks that will pay newbies to switch to them - and for the first time in months we have got one that is willing to give you cash.

"It's the HSBC Advance and it is giving a free £125 to accepted new customers."

Martin did warn that customers do have to meet the account's eligibility criteria, which involves paying in around £1,750 a month into the account. However, he said you could get round this by withdrawing funds and paying them back in.

These types of promotions were once common among high street banks as a way of attracting new customers but during the pandemic these sorts of deal have become rare.

For those who are less interest in cash but still want to grab a good deal, Martin revealed another account that will give you a more luxurious gift.

Virgin Money is currently offering new customers the chance to grab £180 worth of wine, absolutely free, for switching to one of its accounts.

However, Martin warned that time is running out to take advantage of Virgin Money's offer as the deal is "ending on Sunday".
