Martin Lewis reveals how to get a £500 0% overdraft

Martin Lewis has shared his advice on how to get a £500 0% overdraft - and it could be as simple as speaking to your bank.

On his ITV show, the money expert said many overdrafts are now more expensive than a high street credit card - with most at rates of 40%.

He named banks who are currently offering a £500, three-month long 0% overdraft, but you'll have to be quick.

He said: "Many people think credit cards bad, debit cards good - but that's not true any more, because most overdrafts are at 40% - that's more expensive than a high street credit card.

"So you should actually prioritise clearing the overdraft first.

"There's a number of things you can do. Until January 31 - not long - if you've got Covid-related financial struggles then Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax will give you up to £500, three-month long 0% overdraft.

"Santander will do it too but its deadline's not as quick."

According to MoneySavingExpert, Santander customers can apply online until May 4 for an up-to-£500 interest-free overdraft for three months.

And if you are with a different bank, Martin had this advice: "Speak to other banks if you're struggling, though they're not offering this outright like these banks are."

The help offered is for a limited period, and for people whose finances have been affected by the pandemic.

The Martin Lewis Money Show is on ITV every Thursday at 8.30pm.
