Martin Lewis reveals amazingly simple way of dodging new Paypal fee which takes seconds

Martin Lewis has revealed the incredibly simple way users can dodge a new Paypal fee.

People were left concerned when it was revealed that the popular payments service was planning to charge a fee for not using their accounts.

Paypal warned customers that it would start charging a new annual fee from December 16.

The online financial service said that any inactive customers will be automatically charged £12.

However on the Martin Lewis Money Show, the expert revealed the best - and simple - way to avoid this.

He told his show: “Next Wednesday Paypal is starting an inactivity fee for anyone who hasn’t logged in or sent, received or withdrawn money in the last year.

“How do you beat that? Just go and log in.”

PayPal added that it has no plans to close accounts - so if you have an account that’s empty and not linked to a bank account, you won’t be charged.

It also won’t apply to customers in Ireland, according to the terms and conditions.

A statement from PayPal said: “We are establishing an inactivity fee for accounts that have been inactive for at least 12 consecutive months.

“This provisions does not apply to PayPal users registered in Ireland and to personal accounts registered in Hungary.”

Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert, told the public to act fast before they forget and get charged.

By “inactive”, PayPal means accounts where the owner hasn’t logged in or sent, received or withdrawn money.

If there’s less than £12 in your account, PayPal will wipe it to zero.

If you don’t have any money in your PayPal account, or your balance is negative, you won’t be charged.

PayPal said it would warn inactive users about the fee 60 days, 30 days and then seven days before they are charged.

To beat the charge you need to log into your PayPal account or make a transaction on or before December 15.

The Martin Lewis Money Show airs each Thursday on ITV at 8.30pm.
