Martin Lewis picks out finer Budget detail which has left some people 'sick with worry'

Financial expert Martin Lewis has been looking into the details of Rishi Sunak's Budget - and he found something which has got some people worried.

As part of the Budget, the Chancellor announced that 600,000 self-employed people will be able to claim for a support grant - which they were unable to do before.

On changes to the self-employed scheme, Mr Sunak said: "When the scheme was launched, the newly self-employed couldn’t qualify because they hadn’t all filed a 2019/20 tax return.

"But as the tax return deadline has now passed, I can announce today that, provided they filed a tax return by midnight last night, over 600,000 more people, many of whom only became self-employed last year, can now claim the fourth and fifth grants."

Now Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has picked out a detail about the announcement which wasn't mentioned, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In a tweet he said: "According to the docs SEISS 4 will be claimable from late April.

"That will be a blow for many of the self-employed who are desperate for the money now - and relatively is much later in the schedule than previous grants. I am awaiting confirmation and hope I'm wrong #budget21."

The news has left some people "sick with worry" and concerned about the future.

"It’s genuinely made me and no doubt others feel sick with worry. CJRS [Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme] are ok every month. We are not. It’s cruel," said one person in reaction.

Another wrote: "I have no idea how I will survive until then. I've just had to make the last payment stretch from September to now, I was hoping it would be this month, not in 2 months time."

"Why are they doing this to us... it seems so unfair that anyone on furlough gets their income monthly but self employed who aren’t able to work and are genuinely struggling are having to wait so so long," said another worried Twitter user.
