Martin Lewis opens doors to incredible home to film vital show during lockdown

While Britons have been locked in and businesses closed across the country, Martin Lewis has been providing regular updates on the help being made available and answering questions from worried ITV viewers.

But despite counting as an essential worker thanks to his reports, and therefore able to travel, Martin has been uncomfortable with the journey into the studio.

"About to leave home for the first time in a week, to walk to the studio for my show," Martin tweeted earlier this month.

"Genuinely feel anxious, been lucky to be able to stay home, in our safe bubble. Puts me in awe of NHS and other key workers out daily for the greater good."

There were also adjustments when he returned home after.

"As soon as I got in Mrs MSE asked me to take all my clothes off. Thought it must've been a really good show," Martin joked.

"Then she explained she wanted to me put everything in the wash as I'd been outside the house, and I should go shower," he added.

And that meant as soon as he was able, he wanted to shoot from home - even if it meant giving up on a little of his hard-won privacy.

"For years we've deliberately NEVER - done at home shoots - filmed at home - put our daughters pic online," Martin tweeted in response to comments about a Skype interview.

"Ie we keep our private space private. Covid's forced change."

So, with a little help from his wife Lara - herself a technology journalist who's been filming shows for the BBC from home - he filmed last night's show from his home office.

At the end of the show, Martin even brought Lara on screen and gave her a hug as thanks for getting the lockdown version of his money show up and running smoothly.

And that meant as well as important information on what the latest measures from the Government mean for your money, viewers got a small insight in his workspace.

And it's fair to say people were impressed - not just with Martin's office, but with where Lara was filming from too.

"Ooh I was admiring that red chair! Stupidly didn't occur to me it wasn't a set. Very slick both of you," one viewer Tweeted.

Another added: "Looks like you guys have a nice gaff."

And rather excitingly, Martin hinted the rooms on show are just the tip of the iceberg.

"My home office's the most anodyne space I have," Martin tweeted.
