Martin Lewis makes surprise announcement to money-saving fans on social media

It’s only been a week since money-saving expert Martin Lewis announced he was leaving ITV's Good Morning Britain after a seven-year run.

The consumer champion has been a regular fixture on television, radio and online social media platforms during the coronavirus pandemic, offering help and advice soon after any UK Government announcements have been made.

He’s also been at the helm of his MoneySavingExpert.com website, steering his team of financial and consumer experts into the murky waters of holiday refunds, energy-saving deals, payment freezes and anything else Covid-19 related that the British public should be aware of.

But now Martin has announced he’s taking a much-needed break from his media duties to spend time with his family.

The founder of MoneySavingExpert.com took to his official Twitter account on Tuesday telling his 1 million followers he would be taking a “summer work-break” after a "long slog" of a year.

In the post, Martin said: "Ta-ta for now.

"It's been a long slog this year, esp with constantly changing Covid news. So I'm about to start my usual summer work-break from social media, MSE, telly etc to tune-out and spend a few wks with Mrs & Mini MSE (& maybe the odd round of golf).

"Have a lovely summer."

Martin Lewis will no longer offer consumer advice on Good Morning Britain after seven years (ITV)

Fans were quick to respond and wish him well, with the post receiving over 3,700 likes and 157 replies.

One well-wisher wrote: “Enjoy your time off mate. You will need it as by the time you come back the country will be financially worse off and people are going to need your advice more than ever. Have a great break.”

While another commented: “Thank you for all the help, guidance and support you’ve provided.”

The weekly MoneySavingExpert.com newsletter will still be published every Wednesday by the blog team.

The financial journalist will also return to TV screens in a new series of The Martin Lewis Money Show Live in September.
