Martin Lewis issues warning to Amazon shoppers over prices

Shoppers are being warned over the prices of gifts from Amazon as Martin Lewis tells of a way to double check that you are getting the best deal possible.

The Money Saving Expert said just because they list a price as reduced, it doesn't make it cheap.

He has told of a way to double check that you are getting the best deal possible, ensuring that you get more bang for your buck, The Liverpool Echo reports.

He shared a few tips and hints to make sure that you are getting only the best pricing and items from Amazon.

The website has a large selection of 'deals' every day, but there are a few times a year where it has big sale events – when in theory it offers its best discounts – though don't always trust everything is a good deal, as we usually always spot some duds.

One tool that he recommends to ensure the best real deal is a free price history tool.

He said: "Before you buy, plonk any item's Amazon URL (its web address) into free price history tool CamelCamelCamel, which charts Amazon price changes, to show how the current price compares, and if the 'was' price is realistic."

There are also other ways to shop, rather than just on the main Amazon page.

These include the Amazon Warehouse and the Amazon Outlet.

The warehouse is a hidden treasure trove where Amazon's returns are resold with big discount and it's worth checking if there's something you're after and don't need brand-new.

Martin said: "You'll get an idea of an item's condition before buying, but often it's just the odd blemish on the box or some cosmetic wear-and-tear most wouldn't care about. What's more, you still have a right to return the goods in 30 days, as you normally would at Amazon."

The outlet is where Amazon sells any surplus of stock at cheaper prices.

The products on offer change regularly but can include electricals, books, home and kitchen items, baby products, toys, clothes and more.

Martin said: "You can bag some decent discounts here, up to 50% off from what we've seen (sometimes even more), as they're items Amazon is keen to shift."
