Martin Lewis issues urgent warning to anyone who is self-employed

Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to anyone who is self-employed.

Time is running out for people to apply for the government's Self-Employment Income Support Scheme grant.

Martin tweeted: "Pls share URGENT WARNING TO ANYONE SELF-EMPLOYED.

"Applications for the last big govt grant ends midnight. If ur eligible (sadly not all are) & ur biz's been impacted by Covid since 14Jul (eg less demand, u self isolated after hol) ur due up to £6,750."

Explaining more, Martin pointed to MoneySavingExpert.com site explaining exactly why this is happening and how you can avoid being stung by an extra cost.

He says: "It's a non-repayable, taxable grant, worth up to £6,570, made up of 3mths' worth (of 70%) of average trading profits."

Martin adds: "It is made up of a single payment made up of 70% of three months' worth of average monthly trading profits over three months capped at £2,190/mth.

"You need to have been adversely affected by coronavirus on or after 14 July 2020 to claim it."

The deadline to apply is 11.59pm tonight (October 19) and it is the second self-employment grant to be issued.

Martin adds there is set to be a third and fourth with only details about the third being released so far, which sees those rewarded much less.

To apply for the second grant and find out more you can do so on the government website here.
