Martin Lewis issues message to Rishi Sunak amid cost of living crisis

Martin Lewis has issued a message to Rishi Sunak ahead of the Spring Statement.

The Chancellor is set to deliver his much anticipated statement today as pressure grows on the government to step in and take action over the growing cost of living crisis hitting UK families.

The price of energy bills will skyrocket when the price cap rises by 54% on April 1 due to the surging cost of wholesale gas. The Money Saving Expert expressed concern for the impact the hikes will have across the UK and said he is "virtually out of tools" to help Brits with the crisis.

The finance guru has taken to his social media channels and issued a message to the Chancellor to "seize the chance" and provide suitable support measures.

He said: "Dear @RishiSunak, the UK is on the brink of a personal finance precipice.

"Today you, only you, have the tools to pull it back. To save lives. To improve living standards. To reduce millions' anxiety.

"This is what builds a legacy and makes a great Chancellor. Pls seize the chance"

It is not the first passionate plea the Money Saving Expert has made to the government this week. Martin interviewed Sajid Javid on Monday's edition of Good Morning Britain and issued a campaigning call to the Health Secretary.

He said: "People on oxygen concentrators. People on dialysis machine. People with electric wheelchairs are in panic and shock that their lives are going to be cut off because of these energy rises.

"I know we have cabinet government. I know you sit around that table. Please as Secretary of State for Health, will you champion those people and make sure that we don't disable their lives going forward."
