Martin Lewis issues energy price cap update as household bills set to soar

Consumer champion Martin Lewis has issued an update regarding the energy price cap.

Energy prices have been rising since last September as wholesale prices hit a record high.

This led to over 30 firms folding under the pressure.

While the wholesale price has now fallen slightly, Martin explained on his ITV show, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, the price is still far higher than average.

This means that in April a new price cap will be set and it is likely to force bills to sky rocket.

Previously, he stated that experts predicted that the cap will rise by a whopping 51 percent.

However, new research have suggested that it might not be quite as high.

Taking to Twitter, Martin Lewis said that the price cap might go up 49 percent, slightly lower than what was originally predicted.

He said: "A tiny bit of slightly less bad news. The six month assessment period for the 1Apr price cap closes today. Analysts @CornwallInsight now predict the cap will rise 49% not 51% as predicted earlier.

"So for someone on typical bills rising from £1,277/yr to £1,900 (not £1,925)".

Martin has repeatedly urged the Government to intervene in regards to energy prices as many people around the UK will be forced to choose between heating or eating.

As inflation also rises, the financial guru has pleaded with people to be 'financially considerate' towards their friends and family.
