Martin Lewis cleared up more money worries for viewers in the UK tonight (Thursday) when he grilled the Chancellor of the Exchequer about the newest financial measures being brought in across the UK.
The Budget, which was announced yesterday in the House of Commons, was the main monetary event of the week and influences taxation, funding and more for the next 12 months
The money-saving guru has had plenty to say about the ramifications of Rishi Sunak's speech this week, and tonight he was keen to ask about the furlough measures which affect more than 11 million people.
During his speech, Mr Sunak said the furlough scheme will be extended until the end of September, adding: "For employees, there will be no change to the terms – they will continue to receive 80% of their salary, for hours not worked, until the scheme ends.
"As businesses reopen, we’ll ask them to contribute alongside the taxpayer to the cost of paying their employees.
"Nothing will change until July, when we will ask for a small contribution of just 10% and 20% in August and September."
On The Martin Lewis Money Show, the interviewer asked what Rishi would say to those who are being left out because their employer won't furlough correctly.
The Chancellor said: "I'd urge all companies to act compassionately to their employees through a difficult time and I know huge numbers of them have done and I've met lots of them and people who have benefitted from their jobs being saved.
"But obviously that has to be a decision for the company. It wouldn't be right for the Government or indeed the employee to decide whether they're getting furloughed and paid by the Government.
"I think everyone appreciates that would throw up some unintended consequences."
A large portion of the show was given over to a one-to-one interview between the two, the culmination of Mr Lewis' campaign to get the Chancellor on his show to answer viewer questions and break down the Budget using the hashtag #RishiComeTalkToMartin in an effort to make it happen.
