Martin Lewis goes on Good Morning Britain to say how people can get free £175

Christmas is less than a month away and so many people will be looking for ways to get a bit of extra cash.

And now Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has issued some very good advice - which could get you £175.

The financial guru - who founded popular cash-saving site MoneySavingExpert - went on ITV's Good Morning Britain to tell people about an incentive being offered by banking giants HSBC.

If you're prepared to switch to HSBC, it'll give you £175.

The only catch is you have to do it by Monday, Birmingham Live reports.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Mr Lewis said: "HSBC is giving people £175 for switching to its bank account, you have to do it by Monday, you also have to be paying in £1750 a month, which is a salary of £26,000."

He added: "That’s part of its conditions, but you could split that up and pay in £1000, take out £750 put it back in.

"So that will help - that comes within 40 days so about second week of January you’d get the cash, which if you’re spending in Black Friday might be quite helpful."

How the switch works

To get the cash you need to apply using the bank’s switching service.

The best bank accounts

If accepted within seven working days the bank closes your old account, moves over all direct debits and standing orders, and ensures payments to your old account are auto-forwarded.

Seven-day switching was introduced in September 2013 which means swapping to a new bank is now quick, easy, and pain-free for the majority of people.

All of your payments going in (for example, your salary) and any direct debits (like utility bills, council tax, your gym membership) will automatically be moved to your new account without you lifting a finger.

Martin Lewis has also been busy finding some of the best Black Friday deals - you can see his top pick of deals here.
