Martin Lewis gives money saving advice to households with one or more bedrooms

Martin Lewis has told people with one or more bedrooms in their house how they can save money on their bills.

It comes amid the ongoing energy crisis which will see bills rise by 54% in April and could lead many households struggling with their utility bills.

But Martin, alongside co-host Angelica Bell, discussed various ways people can save money on The Martin Lewis Money Show - and had a handy tip for water bills.

Water bills are set to rise by 2% on average in England and Wales and Martin went on to explain how to bring bills down for certain households, the Liverpool Echo reports.

He said that if you have for example a four-bed house with only two people in it, a water meter should save you money.

Martin said: "If there are more or the same number of bedrooms as there are people in your home if you live in England and Wales - it is likely that a water meter will cut your costs.

"Go onto ccwater.org.uk which is the Consumer Council for water."

He added: "When you apply for a water meter you have up to a year, usually as long as you are not forced to have one, to change your mind.

"If they say you can’t have a water meter you can ask to have an asset charge which effectively assumes what water you would use.

"The reason this all works is because the rate is based on the value of your house."

Martin later went on to reveal a "water-saving freebie" tip that can save you even more money on your water bill.

"Finally on this, just worth noting, there are hundreds and thousands worth of free water-saving freebies, put your postcode in SaveWaterSaveMoney.co.uk, that's not just for water," he added.

"Even if you don't have a water meter remember much of the water we use is heated so we pay to heat it so if we use less hot water it helps on your energy bills too."
