A fan of money saving expert Martin Lewis got an £800 cheque in the post after listening to advice on how to reduce living costs and just making a phone call.
On last week's episode of ITV's Martin Lewis Money Show, the finance guru gave viewers tips on how best to navigate the cost of living crisis, reported the Manchester Evening News.
As part of the show, he explained to viewers how they could receive cash by taking advantage of marriage tax allowance.
Martin explained that the marriage tax allowance allows you to transfer £1,260 of your personal allowance (the amount you can earn tax-free each tax year) to your spouse or civil partner, if they earn more than you.
One viewer investigated if she could benefit from this advice and made a phone call which ended up with her receiving an £800 windfall.

She tweeted to Martin: "After watching your programme last night on marriage allowance, I rang up today and £800 cheque is in the post … thank you for all that you do, we are lucky to have someone like you."
What is the marriage allowance?
The marriage allowance allows you to transfer £1,260 of your personal allowance (the amount you can earn tax-free each tax year) to your spouse or civil partner, if they earn more than you.
If your claim is successful, it will lower the higher earner's tax bill for the tax year, but you can also backdate your claim if eligible. Only people with specific circumstances will be able to apply, says WalesOnline.

You need to be married or in a civil partnership, not just living together. One of you needs to be a non-taxpayer, which usually means you'll earn less than the £12,570 personal allowance between April 6, 2021 and April 5, 2022.
The other partner needs to be a basic 20% rate taxpayer and you both must have been born on or after April 6, 1935.
If that like you, get on the phone and you could be quids in.
The Martin Lewis Money Show Live will be back for a one hour special in May.
