Martin Lewis shared tips on tonight's The Martin Lewis Money Show on how to save yourself hundreds of pounds in your water bill each month.

He claimed that there are 600,000 water saving freebies available for people of different backgrounds currently.

To see which freebies you might be entitled to, you should visit savewatersavemoney.co.uk and put your postcode in.

The online company offer free water saving devices as well as further advice on how to cut water usage and bills.

Martin recommended using a £20 shower head and £5 tap inserts which both help you to only use the water that you need.

Also using a £2 cistern bag that controls the power of your toilet flush can be a small cost with a long term saving.

These items will help even more if you have a water meter installed.

Martin said: "Water bills are based on the value of your house - the bigger it is the more you pay. Whereas meters depend on how much you use."

So therefore if you have more rooms than people it may be best to have a meter installed.

Households are entitled to a free water meter but to check if it is worthwhile getting one, you can go to CCWater.org.uk.

You can change your mind within a year of getting one installed to get it taken back out.
