Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has explained how to protect your holiday booking from coronavirus uncertainty.
Martin hosted a special show on ITV tonight centred on travel after international travel was allowed to resume this week.
Lots of people are booking holidays and are worried about what they can do to get their money back if things go wrong and they can no longer travel.
Martin had three top tips for helping people protect themselves and their booking.
The first thing he suggested was for people to get travel insurance.
Most policies will cover you if you catch covid before you go abroad and can no longer travel.
If you catch covid while you're away your travel insurance should also cover you for medical costs and additional costs that come with it.
But Martin warned that insurance was unlikely to cover you if you travel restrictions change, or if you can no longer go to your destination because you can't afford to quarantine afterwards.
And if you change your mind because you don't think it's safe to go, you also wouldn't be covered.
Martin encouraged people to still get insurance as all the usual risks associated with going abroad still applied and he said you should get it as soon as you book.
Martin then encouraged people to get a European Health Insurance card if they were going to Europe but said they were free and that people should never pay for them.
Martin's second top tip was to make sure your booking was as flexible as possible.
He said that package holidays had strong protection and that if covid restrictions stopped the trip you should get a refund within two weeks.
For hotels and self catering options Martin said people should aim for free cancellations 24 or 48 hours before and for flights people should also aim to book with a flexible airline where you can change your booking.
Martin's last tip was that people should "pay on plastic" because if you pay on a credit card you get Section 75 protection, which means the card company is jointly liable for payments over £100- £30,000.
Debit cards also have chargeback protection, so Martin said it was always best to pay on a card if possible.
