Martin Lewis' 'catastrophic' warning to disabled This Morning caller from Liverpool

Martin Lewis shared a "catastrophic" warning on This Morning as people come to terms with increasing energy bills.

The consumer champion appeared on Wednesday's edition of ITV's flagship daytime programme to issue advice to callers. The first viewer to phone in was a woman from Liverpool named Patricia, who was concerned about the surging cost of her energy bill.

Patricia is a Scottish Power customer and said the energy company had offered her two options once her £70 a month fixed rate deal expires. She could either sign up a new fix of £183 a month or go on to the standard rate of £140 - and Martin advised Patricia to stick with the price cap.

The caller was disabled and said she pays more for her energy bill as she has to charge her wheelchair and requires the use of an electric stairlift. Martin said the current prediction is that the price cap will once again rise by 32% in October and slammed the increase as "not sustainable".

He said: "This is why I've been calling for political intervention for months. It is deeply frustrating trying to sit here and give you the solution within the path we have right now.

"There are many disabled people who have much higher energy use than average and it is a catastrophic problem."

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and the ITV Hub
