Martin Lewis' bank trick which pays you to shop at Sainsbury's, Asda, M&S and every supermarket

Money saving mastermind Martin Lewis says no matter which supermarket you shop at, you could be paid to buy food and drink thanks to a brilliant new tip using a Santander bank account.

Returning to ITV1 live on Tuesday night, Martin urged his Martin Lewis Money Show Live viewers to take up an offer from Santander which has just hit the market.

It means every trip to Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's or any of the other major supermarkets could be earning you money every time you shop. The trick even pays out on petrol and diesel and yields money back on your monthly bills such as a mortgage, electricity or water.

Martin said the deal has some terms and conditions but is open to everyone who isn't currently a Santander customer.

Speaking on the ITV1 show live, Martin advised his audience that the best free bank switch available in 2023 so far is a Santander Edge account.

You have to pay £3 a month for the account and pay in at least £500 a month, so basically any salary, and then you get 1% back on all food shopping, fuel and travel, up to a max of £10 a month.

You also get, separately, up to £10 cashback on monthly bill payments.

He said that for someone paying typical bills, it will give you between £70 to £100 per year cashback after the fee is taken off it.

On top of that, Santander will pay you £200 cash to switch AND you also get access to a 4% easy-access savings account that's linked to the Edge account, up to a maximum balance of £4,000.

Martin said: "It's pretty good with the £200 and the cashback.

"What's interesting here is normally we see a price war between the banks fighting to legally bribe you to come and be a customer.

"That hasn't happened this year. The only alternative is First Direct, £175 free, top service in most polls done on this and it give you a £250 0% overdraft."

Elsewhere in Martin Lewis' 'savings special' Martin slapped a woman on the wrist for using the wrong bank account and issued a warning to people using ISAs.
