Martin Keown tells Mikel Arteta his Arsenal priority in transfer window after Bukayo Saka deal

Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes that Mikel Arteta's next point of call should be signing a top-class midfielder to bolster their ranks.

The Gunners secured a major piece of business after announcing a new long-term deal for Bukayo Saka but still have work to be done.

Arteta is braced for his first summer transfer window at the helm and Keown believes the main area that needs strengthening is obvious.

"There are many things to do. It's about really getting that DNA back into the players, that toughness, the will to win, raising the bar," he told BT Sport.

"Defensively, we know there are a lot of problems. Arsenal are carrying five or six central defenders, which one of them is good enough and who is going to be the partnership?

"In the middle of the park, I don't really think we've had a top midfield player who can control things since Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva.

"Let's try to get a top midfield player into that position. I'm assuming that is what the club are working towards."
