Martin Keown has named the area where he sees Arsenal splashing the cash in this summer’s transfer window.
The Gunners geared up for the new season by beating Liverpool in the Community Shield on penalties last weekend.
Off the pitch, Mikel Arteta's side have made two major signings thus far with Willian joining on a free transfer.
Gabriel Magalhaes also completed his move this week, while Thomas Partey, Houssem Aouar and Philippe Coutinho have all been linked in recent weeks.
And Keown believes the Gunners are in need of a world class midfielder and that is where the money may well be spent.
“I think maybe it is in that midfield,” Keown told BT Sport after Arsenal’s win over Liverpool.
“You need a really world class midfield player to drop into that midfield and then at the back the obvious got Gabriel, who is a player they are looking to buy.
“Saliba on the bench, who we haven’t seen anything off, so they are growing in that area and are going to start developing a new defence.
“But the middle of the park is maybe where the money is spent this summer.”
