Martin Keown reveals one thing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must win to become Arsenal legend

Martin Keown has told Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang how he can become an Arsenal legend.

The Gunners striker penned a new contract this week and after putting pen-to-paper, he told supporters he wants to become an Arsenal legend.

He said: “I signed da ting because I want to become an Arsenal legend and to maybe leave a legacy. It is time to work a lot to become a legend, for sure, I will do my best as always.

"I just signed da ting. Hopefully you are happy, and I can't wait to see you in this beautiful stadium soon."

And Keown, who is already in the Gunners' legend club, has told Aubameyang what he needs to do to achieve the status.

Speaking about the striker's new deal, he told talkSPORT: “Aubameyang loves playing there [Arsenal] and he wants to be a legend in the future, so why not?

“He’s 31 years of age and he’s turned down Barcelona by the way to stay there. I think that tells you how much he loves the football club and what he’s looking to achieve.

“If they win the Premier League in the next three years then he certainly will become a legend if he plays a major part in that.

“You look at the goals record that he’s got and he can’t get near Henry and I’m not even sure he can catch Ian Wright.

“But he wants to follow in their footsteps. I saw a piece with Ian Wright just a few days ago and he came across very humble during that exchange. He comes across a very genuine character to me.

“It does do something for you that football club – it’s a huge club. I will love that football club until the day I die.

“He feels that way and it does come out in the way he plays. He takes responsibility and has no fear in front of goal.

“He loves it, so why would he want to go somewhere else?”

Aubameyang has been with Arsenal since 2018, scoring 55 goals in 86 league outings so far.

His contract was set to expire next summer, but his new deal takes him up to 2023.
