Martin Keown ponders Celtic revival chances as he makes Rangers 'running away with it' admission

Martin Keown expects Rangers may still have to contend with Celtic "coming after them" this season.

The Premiership leaders sit 13 points clear of the reigning champions and further underlined an impressive resurgence by topping their Europa League group.

Keown lavished praise on boss Steven Gerrard for ensuring his side finished ahead of Euro heavyweights Benfica following a 2-0 win over Lech Poznan on Thursday night.

Rangers head for Tannadice on Sunday aiming to keep their unbeaten start to the campaign intact.

But while Celtic have faltered in recent weeks, Keown reckons they could still launch a fresh charge for 10 In A Row in the coming weeks and months.

He insists Gerrard must maintain this blistering form to keep a revival at bay.

“Absolutely outstanding to win their group in this manner,” Keown told BT Sport. “Especially with Benfica in that group, they’re making huge progress. They are running away with the Scottish Premiership – 13 points.

“Everything is going brilliantly well for Steven Gerrard.

"We knew he was an outstanding manager in the making but he’s got to keep that going now.

"Maybe Celtic will come after them, we will have to wait and see.”
