Martin Keown on the big change Arsenal must still make after Unai Emery sacking

Arsenal have sacked Unai Emery less than midway through his second season at the club after seven games without a win and it has led to reaction aplenty.

One of the people to offer up his thoughts has been Martin Keown, who was speaking to talkSPORT this morning on a range of Arsenal topics after the departure of the Spaniard.

Keown was quick to explain that the writing had been on the wall for a while but he also delved into the reasons why he feels it should be the first of many changes at the club.

One of the big issues that has frustrated Keown is the lack of clarity at the club over who makes key decisions, whether it be head of football Raul Sanllehi, managing director Vinai Venkatesham or non-executive director Josh Kroenke. Keown, for one, is eager to see change to the structure at Arsenal after Emery's exit.

"If you look at it in terms of the recruitment, Ivan Gazidis (former Arsenal chief executive) only had to make one decision in the ten years at the club and he got that wrong," Keown told talkSPORT.

"Now in terms of recruitment, who is making that decision? Is it Josh Kroenke? Is it Vinai (Venkatesham), Raul Sanllehi or the board? Who is the one making the decisions?

"The managerial structure at Arsenal, I don't know if it's in disarray, but we have an ageing board. This is an opportunity to address some of that. I know there is a lot of wisdom in that board and I respect that but it's also about energy and a new direction for Arsenal football club. This is an opportunity to change some of that."
