Martin Keown makes Arsenal Champions League prediction after shock Europa League exit

Martin Keown expects Arsenal's misery to continue this season - and has predicted that his former team will miss out on Champions League football again next season.

The Gunners were sensationally dumped out of the Europa League by Olympiakos on Thursday, losing on away goals as Youssef El Arabi scored in the final minute of extra-time to give the Greek side a 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

It was enough for Olympiakos to progress as the tie ended 2-2, with the away goals rule sending last season's beaten finalists crashing out at the round of 32 stage.

The shock loss brought a premature end to Arsenal's European campaign and - sitting ninth in the Premier League and seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea - Keown reckons they'll fail to finish in the Champions League qualification spots.

"I dont think they will be able to do it," Keown told BT Sport.

"You look at whats in front of them, Sheffield United, Wolves . You could say they could drop in form but I’ve seen no sign of that so far.

"Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United look favourites to get there before Arsenal do."

The former Arsenal defender also criticised the team for their "unprofessional" performance in Thursday's Europa League defeat.

"There were so many disappointments in that performance. There were so many unprofessional performances from players. Such a poor game for Arsenal," Keown told BT Sport.

"It was the first time I felt that the players were not responding to the manager and the manager didn't know what changes to make.

"If you break down the performance you could have looked at every player and say they could have all done more. Nicolas Pepe is going to have to improve. Gabriel Martinelli should have come on a lot earlier. Granit Xhaka was taking the easy way out."
