Martin Keown highlights the one major problem at Arsenal that could take another decade to fix

Martin Keown has labelled Arsenal's defending as "embarrassing".

The Gunners faced Watford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and were out shot by the opposition, allowing the Hornets to take 31 shots with 10 on target in comparison to their the seven with four on target.

Conceding so many shots against the lowest-ranked team in the division is a worrying statistic and it was no surprise that the hosts fought back from 2-0 down at Vicarage Road.

What will concern fans even more is that it set a new unwanted record for Arsenal as the most shots they have ever faced in a Premier League game.

In all but one game so far this season, the Gunners have been out-shot by their opponents.

And Keown - a famous member of the back four under George Graham and then Arsene Wenger - believes his former club have forgotten the art of defending.

"We have a major problem at Arsenal football club because with the change of the manager, and I wouldn't put it all on this manager, I've stopped playing now 15 years, in 10 years the defending has got worse and worse," he said on Match of the Day 2.

"I might have to wait another 10 years before it starts to improve. It's actually embarrassing.

"They've lost that ability to pass the ball that was notable for Arsene Wenger and at the moment, away from home, it's really embarrassing."

Arsenal shots vs Arsenal shots faced this season

Arsenal 8-9 Newcastle - (result: Newcastle United 0-1 Arsenal)

Arsenal 15-18 Burnley - (result: Arsenal 2-1 Burnley)

Arsenal 8-25 Liverpool - (result: Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal)

Arsenal 7-31 Watford - (result: Watford 2-2 Arsenal)

Keown also blasted Arsenal's defending leading up to Roberto Pereyra's penalty.

"It's unbelievable. Arsenal are 2-1 up but they seem to be in a desperate mode to try and attack," he added. "Manage the game.

"There are five bodies in the box as Arsenal tried to get a third. It was really open, from one end to the other. The Arsenal defence don't come up to the problem. They melt away and drop and get ever closer to their penalty box.

"And David Luiz in a one-on-one situation just cannot defend, that's end of, and they know that too. He draws the foul and that's the penalty.

"Arsenal throwing away vital points here. You've got to adjust. That's work on the training ground.

"That's shocking to see.
