Martin Keown gives verdict on Maurizio Sarri's outburst ahead of Europa League final vs Arsenal

Maurizio Sarri's debut season at Chelsea has been entertaining if nothing else and in the lead-up to the Europa League final with Arsenal his antics have again caused controversy.

The Chelsea boss appeared on the ropes earlier this season when the Blues were struggling but remarkably the club went on to finish higher than Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United in the Premier League.

It's a testament to the job that he's done in recent months that Chelsea don't have to win this evening to guarantee Champions League football next season.

But from his outburst in the Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City in February to storming out of training this week, negative headlines have followed the Italian manager around all season.

And Arsenal legend Martin Keown firmly believes the former Napoli boss is the master of his own downfall in that regard, with the former Gunners' defender slamming Sarri ahead of the Europa League final.

"I think this is where he is very wrong the manager. Nobody really knew anything was wrong (in training) before he stormed off like that," Keown explained.

"He’s too emotional. I know he’s disappointed with his players and he’s thinking why are they all not getting on together. He either loves or hates them and he has to be the middle ground as the manager. If he’s going to continue in that job it’s going to take him to an early grave. Those players will test you and something has gone on.

"Maybe David Luiz has been a bit immature, Higuain may have run into him and maybe he’s not happy. These things happen all the time but the manager has added to it by the way he’s behaved. The throwing of the cap and the over emotion it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth."
