Martin Keown delivers brutal Arsenal verdict after the Gunners suffer third league defeat

Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown admitted to feeling 'numb' after seeing his beloved Gunners side fall to a dismal 5-0 defeat away at Manchester City.

Keown, 55, witnessed a deflated Mikel Arteta see his side fall apart against the champions on Saturday afternoon at the Etihad Stadium.

The north Londoners were sent bottom of the Premier League table with a goal difference of minus nine after just three games into the new league season.

Despite spending £133million on player incomings for the 2021/22 campaign, not a lot seems to have changed and this feeling was reflected in Keown's verdict after the game.

The Gunners legend admitted that he felt both 'numb' after proceedings were over in Manchester.

Keown told BT Sport: "I feel numb. I wouldn’t say embarrassed but it’s becoming a little bit embarrassing.

"I think after you lose the first game against Brentford, you know you’ve got Chelsea and Manchester City to follow.

"The game against Norwich is a huge game. Norwich play Leicester and they will want to win that to get out of the bottom three, but you could be looking at the two bottom sides.

"It’ll be a massive game and tactically every time they set up, they seem very naive."

The former centre-half then went on to criticise how easy it was for Pep Guardiola's side to cut open the Gunners at ease.

"City were playing through Arsenal and I don’t think at any point it was a real contest today," Keown admitted.

"I know Xhaka gets sent off and it doesn’t make it any easier. You look at the goals before that; they were comical. I think the manager plays a major part in this, it’s too complex and it’s too difficult for the players to understand.

"It’s very sad for Arsenal Football Club."

Arteta is now under huge pressure as we enter the first international break, and the north London clubs' next assignment against relegation favourites Norwich City is simply a must-win.
