Martin Keown defends Unai Emery for big call with Arsenal team against Chelsea

Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes that Unai Emery got his team selection spot on for the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku.

The Gunners need to secure a win to seal a spot in the Champions League next season, while the Blues know their spot in Europe's elite competition is secure after a top-four finish in the Premier League.

A big talking point ahead of the game orientated around the goalkeepers in Arsenal's squad, as a debate rumbled on as to whether Petr Cech, who is the second-choice stopper in north London, should retain his spot ahead of Bernd Leno.

Many argued that Leno, as the club's undisputed number one, should have replaced Cech despite the fact the veteran has featured in every Europa League game so far this season.

However, Keown stood by Emery when asked if the Spaniard had made the right call with his choices for the.

"Yes, without doubt, he’s an extra-special individual if I had anything to do with the football club I’d try to keep him there in some capacity. He’s a special player, a very good professional. And tonight, fingers crossed he’ll going to have an outstanding performance," he told BT Sport.

"He must be a very proud man tonight, his old club, served them with great dignity and with Arsenal there have not been too many leaders but he’s one of them.

"Now he’s going to want to go out with a flourish take a trophy home with him and turn the next chapter. I’m sure there’s plenty ahead of him in the game."
