Martin Keown and Chris Sutton both make the same Frank Lampard claim

Martin Keown has backed Chelsea manager Frank Lampard to be supported by the club, despite an inconsistent start to the season.

The Blues head coach has picked up one win in his first four Premier League games in charge. Last weekend saw the team squander a 2-0 lead to draw with newly promoted Sheffield United.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, former Arsenal defender Keown believes that Chelsea should look at the bigger picture should they consider parting ways with Lampard at any time this season.

"With what Chelsea are going through, Frank Lampard should be supported," he said.

"OK, Chelsea should never be 2-0 up against a promoted club at Stamford Bridge and draw 2-2.

"But Lampard has demonstrated he can get good performances out of young players. It shouldn't be a case of him keeping the seat warm until they can find another head coach, once they can sign players again."

That opinion is also shared by Chris Sutton, who believes that the Ex-England man will see out the season at Stamford Bridge.

"There is a willingness to show patience with Lampard," he said. "He is working in the post- Hazard era and putting up with a transfer embargo.

"Lampard should last the season."

Chelsea and Lampard will be back in action after the international break, when they face Wolves at Molineux on September 14th.
