Unmissable show?
Downton Abbey. It’s shot to suit the mood, which you don’t really get these days. There’s no long tracks. They shoot it really simply. At first I shied away from it because I like [the] “if you’ve got the budget, get the toys out” [style of film-making]. But now I find its an unmissable show. The other show is Benidorm. For me it’s the funniest show on TV. Benidorm is such old-school, Carry On, panto humour. It’s so warm.
Earliest TV memory?
Watching Cilla Black on TV, and getting up off the chair and kissing the television screen, because I was in love with Cilla Black. I must have been about four. I’ve met Cilla a couple of times since but I don’t think I’ve ever told her that.
Bring back…
Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased). Vic and Bob brought it back once, but theirs was more comedic. The original was this bizarre scenario but they played it for real. So, do it again, but in a straight way. Me and my brother could play them!
TV turn-off?
Those 50 Greatest Moments shows. You don’t get to see the moment in full. You just see a little clip of it. They’re talking about “the greatest song”, but they’re only able to show 10 seconds of it. I always feel unfulfilled with those shows.
I cried when…
There was a moment when Thierry Henry returned to Arsenal for a game against Leeds, and the whole of the ground was waiting for him to come on. He came on and he scored. And he went right down the pitch, and jumped into Arsène Wenger’s arms. At that moment I was bawling my eyes out. I could see how much it meant to him.
Pitch us a TV show…
With shows like Made In Chelsea, we all know what they’re doing is rehearsed. So why not have an audience phone-in element? They can make the decision on what they’re going to argue about. Like those Choose Your Own Adventure books, but this time you can choose your own argument.
