Martin Kemp offers NHS workers free tickets to Sunderland gig

Spandau Ballet favourite Martin Kemp is proving a True fan of the NHS with plans to treat staff with free gig tickets once the coronavirus crisis is over.

The musician has announced a series of DJ shows across the UK running from December until February 2021 which he hopes will give his fans something to look forward to. And 1,500 free tickets are on offer to NHS workers.

And included on his Back to the 80s Tour is The Point in Sunderland - on December 19 - which means a local share of that freebie offer being made to any NHS worker.

NHS tickets are also available to shows in Norwich, Coventry, Blackpool, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Plymouth, Dundee, Wigan, Shrewsbury, Rochester and Cheltenham.

Kemp, who as well as being part of eighties band Spandau Ballet - behind such hits as True and Gold - is also an actor and TV regular, already had been due a North East visit this year, having signed up to appear at the Festival by the Sea in Blyth in July - but a decision on whether this event will still proceed is set to be made in June.

Kemp announced his new plans on the back of his previous sell-out tour spinning all the hits from that decade and he said: "These shows will be a lot of fun and the ultimate return to the 80s.

"Music is everyone’s life soundtrack and transports us all to the best times of our lives. I think we all need that right now."

He added that his son, radio host star Roman Kemp, had helped him hone his DJ skills which will see him spin a few of those Spandau classics alongside other eighties tracks during his tour which might also see him indulge in a bit of "dad dancing".

He added: “When I first started these DJ shows I thought we’d just do one or two but they’ve really taken off and they are just so much fun."

Kemp teamed up on the ticket offer with promoter M&B which said the gesture is "to acknowledge the amazing job the NHS is currently doing".

Tickets are available for the Sunderland night here while NHS workers can apply for a free ticket to a show by emailing proof of his or her NHS employmnt to info@easyticketing.co.uk
