The United Nations envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffith, said that he represents the UN and is committed to all its resolutions and references.
He said he will pay many visits to regional countries and Yemen to set a framework for consultations before heading to New York to brief the Security Council.
He also reiterated his commitment to outcomes of the previous consultations and stressed working in accordance with the references, said Yemen official news agency, Saba.
The envoy’s assurances were made during his meetings Wednesday with Saudi, Yemeni and Gulf parties as part of his efforts to push forward the Yemeni crisis peacefully.
Griffiths met Saudi FM Adel Al-Jubeir, and the two parties discussed the situation in Yemen and support provided by the Kingdom to UN efforts for Yemen in addition to discussing humanitarian efforts to help the Yemeni people.
Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani discussed, for his part, with Griffiths in GCC headquarters in Riyadh the consultations carried out by the latter with parties concerned with Yemeni crisis to find ways of resuming political talks to reach a solution to end the conflict in the war-torn country.
Zayani assured the support of GCC countries for efforts of UN Envoy to Yemen and their constant keenness to reach a political solution according to Gulf initiative, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) and Security Council resolution 2216 to stop the bloodshed in Yemen, maintain its security, stability and sovereignty and provide aid for the Yemeni people to alleviate their sufferings.
At the headquarters of the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdul Malik al-Mekhlafi discussed peace consultations based on the outcomes of Kuwait consultations, the three agreed terms of reference of GCC initiative and its executive mechanisms and Security Council resolutions, especially resolution 2216.
The envoy reviewed the features of his vision for peace in Yemen, his action-plan for the next phase and his efforts to prepare for resumption of political consultations aimed at reaching a fair political solution to ensure sustainable peace in the country.
Mekhlafi reiterated the legitimate government's commitment to achieve durable and fair peace, put an end to the humanitarian crisis caused by Houthi militia's coup and restore the State's institutions.
He stressed the importance of disarming the militia so that state’s army becomes the only possessor of weapons, considering it a key guarantee to carry out any peace agreement and maintain it.
