Martin Compston 'wanders Glasgow streets' in the dark after hotel overbooks his room

Martin Compston was left to wander the streets of Glasgow in the dead of night after a hotel messed up his booking and told him they didn't have a room.

The Line of Duty star said he was "humbled" when he learned he had nowhere to sleep after getting off a late night flight.

The 38-year-old explained he was shattered and looking forward to his bed when he arrived at the hotel. And he revealed staff even asked him for selfies before admitting they were overbooked and he couldn't stay.

The star said a receptionist told him staff were excited about him being there and asked if he would pose for photographs, but after they were taken he was stunned to learn there was no room available.

Speaking on his Restless Natives podcast, he said: "I got there about one in the morning and by this time I was just desperate for my bed because I had work in the morning.

"I got to the reception and the lassie went 'oh we didn't know what time you were coming at, but we've all been waiting on you, would you mind getting a picture because people have hung about to see you?'.

"I was like 'yeah of course,' so we got two or three pictures done and then she said 'oh, just to let you know, we don't have a room for you, we have overbooked.'

"I went 'so you didn't tell me that before you got your pictures?'.

"I said 'so where am I going to go?' and she said 'I don't know, everywhere's overbooked.'"

After wandering the streets, the 38-year-old actor ended up getting a taxi to his home in Greenock.

He added: "In some ways I respected the cheek of asking me for the pictures before telling me I didn't have a room.

"I was very humbled that night."

Compston recently appeared in Mayflies with Tony Curran, which features old friends coming to terms with terminal cancer.

His latest role is in Amazon Prime series The Rig.

It's a thriller following the crew of an oil rig as they fight for survival after a strange fog cuts off communication with the shore.
