Martin Compston's Mayflies up for best drama mini series award

Martin Compston's Mayflies has been nominated for 'Best Drama Mini Series' at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards, with the actor taking to social media to share the great news.

Posting the nomination on his Instagram story, the Greenock-born actor shared his gratitude as he tagged his co-stars. The BBC drama adaptation of Andrew O’Hagan’s acclaimed novel has become a hit with people praising the show, and its cast.

After seeing the reviews flood in for the show, Martin took to Instagram back in December and said: "Hard to put in to words the gratitude we all feel for the reaction to the show.

"Anyone at all reaching out always lovely but heartfelt thank you particularly to those in the midst of a diagnosis and those dealing with their grief in the aftermath. Power to you.

"Genuinely means the world and has made this job a career a highlight for us."

In a separate post he added: "The whole cast and production team of MAYFLIES been blown away by reaction of those who watched on @bbcscotland and @bbciplayer

"The messages genuinely been wonderful especially those reaching out who have dealt with loss. Can’t thank you all enough."

The television show, which also stars Tony Curran and Ashley Jensen, tells the story about the power of love and friendship - as well as a tragedy as it follows lifelong friends Jimmy and Tully [Curran], as they come to terms with the news that Tully has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The news is even harder to process when Tully asks Jimmy, played by Compston, to help him travel to Switzerland to die on his own terms.

The mini-series is up against I Am Ruth, I Hate Suzie Too, Karen Pirie and Vardy vs Rooney: A Courtroom Drama,

You can watch both episodes of Mayflies, each lasting an hour long, on the BBC iPlayer.
