Martin Compston had the best comeback for viewers who blasted the ending of Vigil which came to a close last night.
The BBC submarine thriller reached its grand finale after weeks of non stop twists and turns, some of which left viewers a little disappointed.
Fans of the six-part series took to social media after the finale to give their verdict, with the Scotland-filmed show getting mixed reviews.
One particular negative review caught the attention of the Greenock-born Martin, whose character died in the submarine drama's first episode.
In a tweet, the user wrote: "So that’s Vigil and Line of Duty that had really c**p endings, choose the next series wisely @martin_compston you don’t want to make it a hat trick."
The actor had the perfect response and replied: "I know Dave pal I’ve made an a**e of it. One the biggest new drama of the year the other biggest drama of the year/century. Agents for the sack."
It wasn't all negative reviews though as dozens of Vigil fans took to social media to heap praise on the drama.
One wrote: "Vigil was amazing I loved it from start to finish. What a lovely emotional ending."
Another commented: "Top stuff. Quality drama. Great characters in a fascinating premise well executed."
The final love story between Suranne Jones's character Amy, and Rose Leslie's character DS Longacre had viewers emotional.
Meanwhile, some compared villain Matthew Doward to the T-1000 whilst others reckoned they needed Ted Hastings to interrogate him.
Not all were happy with the softer ending whilst others felt it was just perfect.
The programme's creator Tom Edge said this week there was "another way to read the show" beyond it being just a standard murder mystery thriller.
He was keen to make lead character Amy Silva confront certain things about her own life – all while trying to get to the bottom of a suspicious death aboard a naval submarine.
