Martin Compston pledges ‘we’ll get you there’ to fundraising girls football team

Martin Compston has pledged to help a girls' youth football team reach their goal to buy a new training kit.

Gleniffer Thistle Girls Youth Teams launched a Go Fund Me page to  raise the £800 needed to buy the kits and appealed to the Line of Duty star for his help.

In a tweet to the actor, coach Paul Craig said: "I’m a volunteer coach with a small grassroots girls football club based in Paisley. I’m trying to raise cash to buy training kit for our youngest girls. Can you help by sharing our GoFundMe page?"

And the actor didn't disappoint, sending a message back to the team saying, "Hey Paula £100 sent over hopefully plenty folk on Twitter's sphere jump on this, come back to me in a couple of weeks if not reached the target we’ll make sure you get there. All best to you and the girls."

Now, the team have smashed their £800 goal and raised more than £1500 on their fundraising page.

In a thank you, Paula said: "Thanks for all the donations. You have helped us reach our target and surpass it. The money raised will ensure every Glenny Girl aged 6-13 years old will be kitted out in new training wear no matter their footballing experience or ability, or their background. We are a club together. Anything raised above £800 will go towards subs jackets and rainwear so from the bottom of my heart, Thank You!"
