Martin Compston in Line of Duty Euro 2020 plot line 'tragedy' if England win quip

Scottish star Martin Compston joked the Euro 2020 final would end in tragedy if it was a plot line on Line of Duty.

The football daft actor has been following his beloved Scotland throughout the tournament.

He took the opportunity to apply the award winning drama's formula to the competition - imagining how all the twists and turns would be played out.

And with rivals England making it all the way to Sunday's final, Martin fears the drama might end badly for his English character Detective Inspector Steve Arnott.

The Daily Record reports how the actor reckoned his Northern Irish colleague Ted (played by Adrian Dunbar) would clash over the final scores.

And that ultimately, guns would be used if the phrase 'It's coming home' were to be used repeatedly.

After one person asked online if Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio could write a seventh season should England win on Sunday, Martin decided to imagine the script in his head.

He wrote: "Would end in tragedy. Hastings shooting Steve after the gobs***e said “Gaffer it came home” one too many times."

Martin who partied after Scotland drew against England has kept things in good spirit since England's victory over Ukraine.

He even said to England fans 'he’s happy that you’re happy' praising Southgate’s side in a clip on social media.

Meantime the future of Line of Duty is still unclear although Martin is keen to see his colleagues again.

He said: "The idea that I would never work with all the guys again together would be heartbreaking.

"But also, with everything that’s just gone on this week, I think everybody, including the audience, needs a bit of time away from it. So we’ll see."
