Martin Compston hints at new Line of Duty series seven at NTA ceremony

Line of Duty fans were sent into a frenzy last night after Martin Compston hinted at a new series.

Line of Duty, written by Jed Mercurio, bagged two wins at the National TV Awards (NTA's)- Best Returning Popular Drama and Special Recognition award.

While accepting Best Returning, Martin, who plays Steve Arnott, took the moment to thanks the viewers and fans and dedicated the award to them.

But he also hinted at a possible new series of Line of Duty.

After the man behind 'H' was revealed in season 6, there has been no confirmation of another series as of yet.

Martin and Vicky McClure have both been working on other projects since.

Vicky is back working with Jed Mercurio in Trigger, a new police drama while Martin had a, sadly, short lived role in Vigil.

But he has recently wrapped up filming The Rig in Edinburgh which will be on Amazon Prime.

During his speech at the NTA's, Martin said: "This means so much, like we started as a wee show on Wednesday night on BBC Two and now we're the biggest drama on TV and it's all because of the fans, we owe everything to you."

He added: "We genuinely don't take this for granted and who knows, maybe we'll be back again."

This was later echoed by Adrian Dunbar who plays Hastings, in a video call as he was unable to make the event.

He said: "As Martin said, who knows, we might be back."

Does this mean there is scope for Line of Duty season 7?

Is there more than just one H?

Hello reports that backstage after the win, Martin told reporters that he would be "gutted" if the show didn't return, but added that it up to writer, Jed Mercurio.

Martin said: "He'll only come back if he believes there's a story to tell, he won't come back just because we're bigger. So if we come back, we're back because there's lines in the story, and the only man who can say that is Jed Mercurio."

But Line of Duty is known for its twist and turns, so fans will just have to wait and see if the gang will be back to catch one thing and one thing only. Bent coppers.
