Martin Compston films in Edinburgh as he forces Hollywood co-star to drink Irn-Bru

Martin’s Compston’s Hollywood co-star claims she has been ‘forced’ to drink Irn-Bru while filming with him in Edinburgh.

Compston, 37, has been in Leith alongside Schitt's Creek's Emily Hampshire working on the new Amazon Prime drama, The Rig.

Canadian-born Hampshire,39, has been embracing the Scottish culture while filming in the capital and told how Greenock-born Compston has already got her addicted to Scotland’s most popular fizzy drink.

Emily, 39, told STV News: "I've been drinking a lot of Irn-Bru because Martin made me try it.

"At first I was like 'no because I really like Coke Zero and Diet Coke' and he was like 'no you have to' and he forced me to.

"And basically it was like a drug dealer forcing me to try my first hit. And now I'm addicted."

Compston told how he has been loving filming in Edinburgh, as well as, having a great time out and about in the capital on his days off.

He said: “It's been wonderful, it's been a great team. One of the nicest jobs I've ever been on.

"Edinburgh's been a big part of that, we've all been able to hang out and go for some lovely food, cutting about.

"Weather's been nice when we've been out.

"So I've genuinely had a blast."

Culture Secretary Angus Robertson visiting the set in Leith (Scottish Government)

Scotland’s Culture Secretary also met up with Martin Compston and co-stars on the set of The Rig at Bath Road studios in Edinburgh, yesterday (July 20).

The show is directed by John Strickland and stars Compston, Glen, Emily Hampshire, and Mark Bonnar.

The production was backed by a £500,000 fund from the Scottish Government, with Angus Roberston pledging for Holyrood to keep supporting the country’s screen industry.

Mr Robertson said: "What a thrill to visit the set of a major television drama being shot here in the heart of Scotland's capital, and it was a pleasure to meet the talented cast and crew.

"Working closely with Screen Scotland, I firmly believe that we are providing a foundation for a sustainable base of Scottish companies and talent to create more projects and productions that draw on Scotland's culture and imagination.

"We are focused on building the skills, talent, support system and infrastructure to capitalise on unprecedented interest in production in Scotland and further develop a sustainable creative economy.

"It was also a pleasure to meet the trainees on set - highly skilled, talented people, drawn from a diverse range of backgrounds, are key to the ongoing success of film and TV production."

Over the past couple of weeks, Martin has been spotted on multiple nights out in the capital - even having a cocktail named after him.

At the weekend he partied with the undisputed lightweight champion of the world Josh Taylor at Edinburgh's Rose Street Garden.

The star is no stranger to the venue, with the Steve Arnott actor celebrating his 37th birthday at the city centre bar in May.
