Martin Compston fans notice Steve Arnott is on their plane modelling life jackets

Line of Duty star Martin Compston was asked if he had a new job modelling life jackets after a Steve Arnott lookalike was spotted on their plane.

The hilarious observation came after one of Martin's fans was on board a flight and thought that the cartoon figure on the safety card looked familiar.

On closer inspection it bore more than a passing resemblance to actor Martin Compston or rather his Line of Duty character Steve Arnott complete with its little moustache and beard.

The character even appeared to wear a 'waistcoat' in the form of a life jacket.

Martin couldn't resist showing off the likeness on his Twitter alongside the message from the fan who said: "Since when did Steve Arnott start modelling for a certain airline?!?

"Different to a waistcoat I suppose! Martin Compston."

The fan added: "It was unnerving how “Steve” like it was! Even my hubby commented! Xx"

An amused Martin responded: "Waistcoat of the sea."

He wasn't the only one enamoured by the likeness.

His followers loved the similarity and one joked: "A-sea 12" in reference to the programme's special unit AC-12.

Another suggested: "The likeness is spooky. I think all life jackets should be renamed Arnotts immediately!"

Others poked fun at the airline connection, using terms such as "Line of Duty free" and "Airline of Duty".
