Martin Compston celebrates 10 years of Line of Duty alongside Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar

Martin Compston is celebrating 10 years of Line Of Duty alongside his BBC co-stars Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar.

The Greenock-born actor took to social media to pay tribute to the hugely popular BBC cop drama a decade after it first aired.

The 37-year-old, who played DC Steve Arnott on the show, shared a snap to Instagram beaming alongside his co-stars in a restaurant and wrote: " Celebrating ten years with this team".

Vicky, 39, who played DI Kate Fleming on the hit show, also shared the same snap to her followers. She captioned the sweet tribute: "Happy Ten Years Line of Duty!! Never lost on me what this show has done for us all and the great people we’ve worked with along the way! Big love LOD!!!"

Line of Duty season six wrapped up last year as fans finally found out the identity of corrupt cop 'H' who was unmasked as Ian Buckells.

However, fans have had a tough time accepting the end of the country's favourite anti-corruption force.

It's not just fans who are desperate to get their uniforms back on, as cast members have previously spoken out about a potential seventh season for the show.

Most recently, Adrian Dunbar, who played Ted Hastings in the Jed Mercurio drama, said he's "hoping something might happen next year" with Line of Duty.

Speaking to Radio Times magazine, Dunbar said that he would "really like to" return to the award-winning drama. "There’s been talk about a movie or a four-parter or two 90 minutes," he said. "We’d love to do it again. I’m really hoping something might happen next year."

He added that there's "something in Jed's laptop – a couple of templates as to how things could go", while he regularly speaks to his co-stars about working together again. "We’re always talking about stuff. Vicky [McClure] and her fella Jonny Owen have their own production company now. We’d love to do something all together one day."

Even Vicky who has remained tight-lipped about future episodes reckons the chances are high of another run of the show, which is one of the most watched programmes in the UK. She previously told The Guardian: "There’s no word of it. I think we’ve all been really honest and said should that happen, we’re all game."

The This is England star added: "It’s like, well, at least I get to be with my mates for four months of the year." Vicky doesn't know if and when the hit BBC show will come to an end, however, revealing that when it does it'll be a "big blow" for everyone.

Both Vicky and Martin appeared on Good Morning Britain earlier this year and spoke about the chances of the show returning. The Our House actor told GMB: "We did say if we ever got 12 million (viewers) we would get tattoos of 'AC-12 million'. If we ever do another series I think it will be something we all do together then."

Asked whether there was another series in the works, McClure said: "Nothing's planned as yet - we just went out for a nice meal. I'm telling the truth. Nothing planned and set in stone. Like Martin said before, we always have a long break in between series so it's not really too abnormal to what we normally do."

Compston added: "We're chuffed that people still want us to come back. We've done 10 years now. The fact that people still want to see the show is amazing and if there's still a story to be told, I'm sure Jed will bring us back."

McClure then said: "We adore working with each other. Jed's writing is phenomenal. We've been working together for over 10 years now and the last series was incredible in terms of the response that we got. It was really quite tough to shoot because it was in Covid so it would be lovely to go back and not end that kind of way."
