Martin Clunes spotted filming new TV drama in Weston-super-Mare

TV favourite Martin Clunes has been seen in Weston-super-Mare - filming for a second series of the hit TV drama Manhunt.

The star, also known as the grumpy character Doctor Ellingham in Doc Martin, was spotted around Stanhope Road near Bournville School in the resort today.

Mr Clunes was in the seaside resort filming for a sequel to the ITV drama Manhunt.

The original series screened in 2019 and saw Mr Clunes in the role of Colin Sutton, an inspector with the London Police Department, working on the case of tracking the person who fatally wounded Amelie Delagrange, a French national in the UK.

ITV had written to residents informing them the area would be used for filming, with work focusing on one house in the street.

In the letter ITV confirmed: "The filming is for Manhunt 2, the four-part drama series starring Martin Clunes which is based on the true memoirs of former London DCI Colin Sutton."

As the series is focused on incidents which happened in 1992, residents were asked to remove their cars where shots were being filmed.

Ade Bowen, a children's entertainer and author, managed to get a snap with Mr Clunes after the actor - a well known animal lover - asked if he could stroke his dog.

Mr Bowen said: "I did manage to have a chat.

"I was walking my dog and having a nose.

"In between the second and third take of the morning, he walked up to me and asked if he could stroke my dog.

"I was thrilled as I thought I would only get shots from afar.

"My dog is a Jack Russell and is normally a bit nippy around strangers, but she was beautifully behaved., which was a relief.

" Imagine my claim to fame being 'my dog bit Martin Clunes'.

" I asked if I could have a socially distant photo, which he kindly obliged.

"I thought he was great to just walk on over and say 'Hi' like that.

"Made my day."

It is not known when the new series will air.
