Martin Boyle set for improved Hibs deal as winger commits to Jack Ross' Easter Road revolution

Martin Boyle is set to sign a bumper, new two-year contract with high-flying Hibs.

The Australian international has verbally agreed a deal that should keep him at Easter Road until the summer of 2023.

Boyle was out of contract at the end of this season and could have left on a free then, but will now commit long-term.

The 27-year-old, who could sign the deal this week, has played a big part in Hibs’ early-season success that sees them sit top of the table with Rangers.

Manager Jack Ross, speaking last week, said: “The advantage we have is he very much enjoys it here, that’s a good starting point.

“He’s at a critical stage of his career, he has important decisions to make.

“But it’s nice we’re in a situation where we are having those discussions.”

The news will come as a welcome relief to Ross and the Hibs support as Boyle has become a big favourite there in his five seasons in Leith.

It looked as if Boyle would be leaving with Stoke City, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday all interested in taking him to the English Championship.

Rangers and Celtic have both watched the Socceroo in recent months and would have been interested if he had been a free agent.

Hibs, however, have pushed the boat out financially to get Boyle to sign a new deal.
