Martin Boyle sends Australia World Cup message from hospital as Hibs hero offers injury clue

Australia international Martin Boyle has offered his support to his teammates as they opened their group stage campaign against France.

The Hibs hero was in line to star for the Socceroos in Qatar and would have been among the first names on the teamsheet for boss Graham Arnold, but has been unable to recover in time after flying out to Qatar with his international team-mates. The winger could only watch on from his hospital bed as the Oz squad faced off against Kylian Mbappe and co to open their Group D campaign.

Despite facing an operation as he looks to be fit for the Scottish Premiership restart when Lee Johnston's men face off against Rangers on December 15, he sent good vibes to his pals ahead of kick-off. He took to Instagram and shared a snap of himself in the hospital with the message "come on lads" as Australia sang their national anthem in Qatar.

It remains to be seen how long Boyle will be missing for the Easter Road side with the forward having just a month to recover post-op. The 29-year-old has been missing since picking up the knee knock against St Mirren last month.
