Martin Boyle relishing Hibs 'mayhem' as Aberdeen target insists he's 'never been happier'

Martin Boyle says he's 'never been happier' than he is now after penning a new contract with Hibs.

The Australia winger has been subject to a £500,000 bid from Aberdeen earlier this week that was booted out by the Easter Road club.

The Dons met Boyle's contractual release clause but Hibs had no obligation to accept as it didn't apply to clubs in Scotland.

Less than 24 hours after the Daily Record reported Aberdeen's bid, Hibs announced that Boyle had penned a new contract and that killed any residual transfer speculation stone dead.

And Boyle says he's loving life under Jack Ross at Easter Road - even if it's 'mayhem' at times.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "There’s trust. They give you a sense of freedom around the place and freedom on the pitch.

“I can’t put my finger on it but it just seems to work and it’s been great.

‘I’ve never been happier in football and I’ve got a great relationship with Pottsy (John Potter). It’s mayhem at times and the gaffer has to avoid us sometimes but it’s the way it works at the moment and it’s working well.”

Despite some raised eyebrows at news of a low-ball bid from Aberdeen, Boyle confirmed on Wednesday that it had there had in fact been one.

He found out about it on the way to pick up his shopping but he wasn't for having his head turned - even despite his boyhood connections with the club.

He's been at Hibs for more than six years now and calls Edinburgh his home.

"The Aberdeen bid happened, but nothing changed," Boyle said.

"I was heading for ASDA to get my shopping when I got a phone call to say Aberdeen had a rejected bid.

"It's flattering, my hometown club and I supported them at a young age.

"But at the same time, I've been living in Edinburgh for years and this is my home now."
