Martin Boyle in Hibs Europa Conference League boost after Australia Olympic squad is named

Hibs have been handed a massive Euro boost after Martin Boyle was left out of Australia’s Olympic squad.

Jack Ross ’ side face either Andorra’s Santa Coloma or Gibralta’s Mons Calpe FC in their Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie.

The Hibees were facing the prospect of not having Aussie international Boyle available, with the Olympic football event in Tokyo set to kick-off the day before the Easter Road side return to European action.

However, Socceroos boss Graham Arnold has opted to give some of the younger talents on the fringes of his squad a chance to impress, and has selected players who are 24 and under.

As such, he has ensured 28-year-old Boyle is available for Hibs.

Boyle enjoyed his best ever season last term as his 15 goals and 12 assists helped fire the Leith club to a third placed finish in the Scottish Premiership and earned him the Hibs Player of the Year award.

Jackson Irvine has also been left out, although as yet no agreement has been reached to extend the midfielder’s stay at the club.

Contract talks have been ongoing and Irvine revealed he’d be in a position to make a decision after his recent World Cup qualifying camp with Australia was done and dusted.

There is one familiar name on the Olyroos squad however, with defender Harry Souttar - brother of Hearts star John - making the cut.
