Martin Boyle Hibs injury fears eased as winger's Australia scare proves a false alarm

Martin Boyle admitted his delight at hitting the international goal trail again as fears were eased over the Hibs star's fitness.

The winger scored in Australia's 3-0 win over China on Thursday but took a heavy knock late on and was removed while clutching his hamstring.

With an Edinburgh derby against Hearts looming on September 12, there was understandable concern over Easter Road's star man.

But The Scotsman report Boyle was withdrawn as a precautionary measure and is expected to play in Australia's next World Cup qualifier against Vietnam on Tuesday.

Injury concerns weren't even on the player's mind when he spoke to the media afterwards.

"It was exactly what we expected as a team," Boyle said. "We couldn't have gotten off to a better start, but we will take it game by game and we will go again on Tuesday.

"It's nice to be on the scoresheet again and to carry my form from club football to here, so I'm happy."

"We are all striving for the same goal, we are all buying into what 'Arnie' wants to do here.

"Three points, the first game, convincingly, three goals and a clean sheet – we can't ask any more."
