Martin Boyle explains his Hibs contract call as Stephen Glass reveals transfer plan B for Aberdeen

Stephen Glass has already lined up transfer Plan B after missing out on Hibs star Martin Boyle.

Aberdeen failed in a daring £500,000 move for the forward as he had already agreed a long-term contract to stay at Easter Road.

Glass, who is in Azerbaijan ahead of Thursday night’s Europa Conference League play-off with Qarabag, admitted the club are actively working on other targets.

The Dons boss said: “I don’t want to talk about players at other clubs.

“If we don’t get the targets we want we move onto the next one.

“I’m specifically not going to name names.

“At the start of the transfer window you want to come out of it stronger. That’s going to continue to be the aim.

“We know what we’ve got and where we’d like to strengthen. Any manager would want to strengthen.

“If you continue to win games and end up in the group stage it maybe gives us a little more power to ask for that.

“Historically there’s been backing at this club. It shows a belief also as a staff we can present the right options.

“It shows a belief there are going to be people coming to watch games and the team is doing the right things.

“Without the extra revenue of people coming through the gate there’s no money to spend.

“So the performance of the team has been pretty good and the backing of the fans has been incredible.

“If we can continue winning and making Pittodrie a tough place to play for other teams and making it attractive for people to come and watch it might give us scope to have a little bit more to spend.

“That gives you opportunities to make the group stronger.”

Boyle explained his decision to stay at Hibernian and revealed there is now no £500,000 release clause in his contract: “I can confirm this has been taken out.

“I was heading towards Asda to get my shopping when I got the phone call.

“I was told Aberdeen had bid and it was flattering. It’s my hometown club, I supported them at a young age.

“But at the same time, I have lived in Edinburgh for years and this is my home now. It was nothing to do with Aberdeen.

“This has been in the pipeline for months. Nothing had changed.

“It was obviously flattering, it means I am doing something right, but my loyalty and commitment is to this club.”
