Martin Boyle could potentially make the Hibs squad for Betfred Cup semi-final

Hibs assistant Robbie Stockdale hasn’t ruled out Martin Boyle being involved in Saturday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Celtic.

Boyle is returning from his second serious knee injury this year, having suffered the first while on international duty with Australia last January.

After getting himself back fit for pre-season, the winger then hurt the same knee in a Betfred Cup group stage fixture up at Elgin.

Tonight’s game against Livingston at Easter Road will come too soon for the 26-year-old.

He has now returned to training with the rest of the Hibs squad however, and while there will be no risks taken with his fitness, Stockdale didn’t dismiss the notion of him making the squad for Hampden.

“Come back to me on Thursday with that one,” he replied. “I think we’ve got to be careful with him for his sake even though the temptation is there to push him on.

“He’s a big player and a good character. We talk about those issues on the pitch and I don’t think it would faze him, he would just be himself - which can be quite annoying at times. But in a good way.

“He is a really good personality and he has a character on the pitch which I like.”
